PROJECT LIST

Diva Day

by Nichelle Bennett

Diva Day is a program that awards prom dresses to teens of low income households that may not be able to afford that perfect “Dream” dress. The dresses are donations from generous and warm-hearted individuals. Donations of these dresses are tax deductible. The Diva Day program understands that purchasing that prefect prom dress can be very pricey, especially since a formal dress many run $150.00 to $300.00, some even cost as much more. “One day while cleaning out my closet I noticed that I had many dress from previous proms, graduations and balls that have sitting in my closet collecting dust and I shared this thought with my mentor.” My mentor at Milestone Mentoring Program, Inc. said maybe you should find someway to give them to. I blew the idea off and was about to throw them away, but something told me to keep them. Being a senior at Woodson Business & Finance Academy (H.D. Woodson High School) in Washington DC I thought of all the children that decided not to go to their prom simply because they did not want to go; not because they did not have the money. That’s when my mentor’s words played in my head. I took the idea to my mentor and Milestone gave me the necessary tools and resources to turn my idea of a “Diva Day” into a reality. That was the year 2011. Thus, in the years since, around mid April through the beginning of May, the Diva Day project will give away many dresses that have been donated to help those in need. If you would like to donate one or more of your formal dresses sitting in your closet collecting dust as mine were, call, write or email Milestone for information regarding this project.

Note : Nichelle is a graduate of Benedict College. Every year since creating the program she has been a loyal volunteer in service to the program she created. We at Milestone Mentoring are very proud of her and her accomplishments since leaving the program as a mentee and now gives back as a mentor to others. We will always be here for her and may GOD continues to bless her.

MVP

There's little doubt that the business community plays a very important role in the mentoring of youth in today’s economy. From the development of high self esteem to the creation of new and exciting innovations that flows over into long-term societal benefits, the MVP participant is the quintessential unsung business hero - given the odds against successfully launching each new inspiration in a mentored youth.

The Machine Vending Program (MVP) initiative offers businesses on a community-wide basis the best means of spawning inspiration through quality life experience programs through our mentors with seasoned wisdom. Working as an MVP in partnership with our organization, will allow us to employ a three prong methodology to accelerate growth into maturity and minimize the traditional inefficiencies:

Pragmatic, phase-based guidance curriculum based on the real-world
Web-based, closed social network to deliver targeted and qualified business connections
A network of dedicated mentors who are seasoned socially conscious adults themselves.
We invite you to partner with us and explore the possibilities of the MVP initiative!
